TRIBUTE FROM FELLOWS FROM THE 80’s OF UNIVERSITY HALL (KATANGA) KWAME NKRUMAH UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

O death, why has thou descended suddenly in our midst and disrupted our fraternity by stinging our beloved Fellow George Korley whom we affectionately called Casanova. Casanova or C’Nova was one of the popular Fellows of Katanga Hall when we descended on KNUST or Tech as it was popularly known then, to pursue our academic journey in the early 80s.

His amiable and affable disposition made him an instant and recognizable member of the Katangeese fraternity, not to talk about his cool and majestic walking. His active participation in all activities of the Hall and his presence and banter at the Porters Lodge and the JCR made him a very popular and an admirable Fellow. He was cool and collected and friends with all who came his way. He enjoyed the fun and opportunities the Hall afforded us.

Our stay at Katanga was however disrupted in 1982 after the 31st December Revolution and further in 1983 when our University was closed down for a year affecting our academic journey. Whilst those who could afford left for overseas to continue their studies, majority of us returned to continue our studies and Casanova was one of us. He came back with vim and the deep desire to pursue his course in Civil Engineering and completed with Honors in 1986, with our Motto “Rest Not” being his guiding mantra.

After his National Service at the Ghana Highways Authority, he left for the U.S. where he pursued his post-graduate studies and settled to start a successful career in his chosen field of civil engineering. He continued his cordial relations with all fellows locally and abroad and was greatly cherished by all of us Fellows. We followed his exploits in the U.S. keenly and were proud of his achievements and his contributions as he raised the flag of Ghana and Katanga highly.

When we created the Fellows of the 80s Platform to bring together Fellows, he became a very active member, shared his views and actively participated in discussions and banter with no ill feelings. He was forthright and made his points without malice. He continued with his jovial disposition in his frank and informed discourse and we all looked forward to his engagements on the platform. He extended his friendship and helping hands to all fellows who made contact with him whilst in the U.S.

For some time now before his sudden demise on the 21st February, he was not frequent on the platform, but we knew he was very busy with his relocation to his new office and were looking forward to hearing from him again, when we heard the sad news of his sudden demise without a word of good bye from him to us, his Fellows. We were all shocked and disappointed and still counting our loss. We are yet to come to the shocking reality of his passing and are in deep sorrow.

Casanova, we loved you and cherished the time you spent with us in our Famous Hall Katanga and after and have been looking forward to meet you again during your intended visit to Ghana. Sadly, that could not be because your Maker has called you to be with him. We are saddened, but we take solace in the fact that He knows best and will grant your peaceful soul solace in His heavenly kingdom. Our heartfelt sympathy to your beloved wife and children. Rest well Fellow till we meet again. We shall miss you and your sweet memories shall be with us!

Fare thee well Brother!!!

Adieu Fellow!

Adieu Casanova!
